Hi,
Stroke is the rapidly developing loss of brain functions due to a disturbance in the blood vessels supplying blood to the brain. This can be due to ischemia (lack of blood supply) caused by thrombosis or embolism, or due to a hemorrhage(bleeding).
Stroke is a medical emergency and can cause permanent neurological damage, complications and death if not promptly diagnosed and treated. It is the third leading cause of death in the United States. It is the leading cause of adult disability in the United States and Europe.
Stroke is occasionally treated with thrombolysis ("clot-buster"), but usually with supportive care (physiotherapy and occupational therapy) and secondary prevention with antiplatelet drugs (aspirin and often dipyridamole), blood pressure control, statins and anticoagulation (in selected patients).

Flann, yes!!! It's quite normal to be depressed AND angry after a stroke. After all, it may have diminished your abilities. You may not be able to do the things you've always done. You may be dependant on others for simple tasks like putting on clothes or eating or going to the bathroom. Depression is a common effect of strokes. You may want to see your doctor about getting anitdepressants to help you deal with the stroke. You may think no one understands how you feel or isn't sympathetic to your needs. It's all quite understandable. You're dealing with a slew of emotions. Keep reading posts and ask some more questions. People on here are glad to share their experiences and how they cope with deficits. Good luck and God bless!

There's a book called "My Stroke of Insight" by Jill Bolte Taylor, a brain scientist who experienced a stroke and documented the experience and her 8-year recovery in detail. My mother recently had a major stroke and my family has just started the book. We've already come across many passages that describe emotions and reactions our mom is having to a tee.
You can see a video of Dr. Taylor talking about her experience and her book here:

Yes, there are many books to help you and your family after a stroke. Exactly what are you needing to know? What about Ebay? Have you tried that?
