recovery after a lock down stroke

My 76 year old cousin is in hospital now after suffering a massive stroke she is unable to swallow and is paralysed on the right side.  She has a saleine drip and nothing else can anyone tell me what the prognosis is for her.  The hospital are no help at all

my mother had a massive hemmo. stroke and was paralyzed on her right side.  on day one they called us all in that she was not going to make it, day 2 the bleeding still had not stopped in her brain, day 3 they were trying to decide if they should inject her brain to stop the bleeding but they were afraid it may cause a heart attack. day 4 a miracle the bleeding stopped. day 5 moved to a hospital bed out of icu. she was in the hospital for 2 weeks than into a rehab center for 2 months then home.  It has been a year now she is still paralyzed arm and leg coming along and is very happy.  fight for rehab give her the chance to recover.  A little suggestion we have a big family so what we did was keep a diary in her room and wrote everything down, meds, what time they turned her, what side, blood pressure etc etc. so when one person left and the other person came inthey could see what was hapening and take over.  Our prayers our with you and your family and a speedy recovery to your mother.

My 86 year old Mom suffered a massive stroke to the left side of her brain 3 days ago and the neurologist has told us 1/2 of the left side, 25% or her brain is dead.  He is recommending Hospice care and the removal of the saline solution drip, the only care my mother is receiving.  She is breathing on her own and is not being given any medications.  She appears to understand when asked to perform movements with the left side of her body, move arm, move leg, close eyes.  She has been sleeping most of the time but on day 2 she was awake for at least an hour responding to being spoken to and movements of her arms and legs by nurses or the doctor.  Luckily I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters who all love  and care about our Mom.  We are going to seek a second opinion from another neurologist and look into more treatment options; feeding tube(PEG), physical therapy.  I hope others will read this forum and let us know your experiences whether good or bad to help others.  These forums have given me and my family hope.   Read other forums and postings there is hope.
