by surreal5, Jan 24, 2008 05:05PM
i am a 38 yr old female just diagnosed with a tectal glioma, grade 2 astrocytoma 10mm. I am having a hard time finding info on this. The neuro-oncologist says its rare for an adult to have a tectal glioma. Does anyone have any knowledge on this.

To: living with tectal glioma??
I am a 35 year old female with a possible tectal glioma.  I was diagnosed with hydrocephalus due to a constricted cerebral aqueduct when I was around 8 or 9 years old.  When I was 32, I went to the ER complaining of a terrible headache that lasted 24 hours.  A CT scan and MRI both showed that I had hydrocephalus.  It was then explained that I had a tectal enlargement in my midbrain (no mention of glioma at that time.  Recently, I had an X ray and MRI of my neck (for neck pain due to a chiropractic injury), and the X ray showed that my pituitary fossa was at the upper limits of normal.  Another MRI was done focusing on the sella turcica (i.e. pituitary fossa).  Now, I am being told that I might have a tectal glioma.  I have no symptpms other than neck pain (that began after a chiropractor adjusted my neck).  Is this something that I may have had my whole life, yet it is not causing any problems? I am suppose to see a neurosurgeon next week.
