I have chronic lyme disease and other diagnosed autoimmune disorders. My physician has requested I do not receive the seasonal vaccine or the H1N1 vaccine as it could be detrimental to my health. My physician has also requested that my family get the shots vs the mist. My biggest concern is that my girls are 5 and 8yrs old and the thimerosol and possible adjuvants in the shots are causing me great concern. I called the health dept and they assured me that the amount of thimerosol is just about the same as what you would get in a tuna fish sandwich or one helping of tuna. But i still have to ask -Is the flu shot safe enough? I do not want to put my kids at more risk by getting them the shot. What is your recommendation?
It is safer for you if they get the shot rather than the mist. I know they do have shots that are thermosil and adjuvant free. I am 33 weeks pregnant and that is the one I will be getting...if they ever get them in here. I would ask your doctor and talk to the health department again. Good luck. Just do what you feel is best for you and your family, it is a hard decision.
I hear you ... we have autoimmune reactive arthritis issues to wonder about and usually don't get the vaccines for flu .... esp. not the mist since two of my children are true asthmatics. It is really a tough decision I agree. That is why this group is so terrific to see we are not alone in making a very hard decision no matter what our concerns and reasons are for.
I was told (again, by a medical professional) that the mist does contain a very small amount of live virus. The shot is a dead dna strand. The shot should also be available thermisol free. Anyone in high risk catagories (pregnant women, anyone with underlying conditions) should receive the shot instead of the mist. I am 25 weeks pregnant, so I will be getting the thermisol free shot. Good luck.
Well, we live in Maryland and I have been searching for the Thimerosol free H1N1 shot for my girls, 5 and 8 and cannot locate it. I have called local health depts, OBGyn offices, etc. I even called Baltimore, no luck. I would travel hours to get this shot for my girls if needed. Even the local teachers that are pregnant cannot locate this shot. The school nurse has been great and understands our dilemma. She called me Thurs to let me know that they are administering the H1N1 vaccines, and that shots will have Thimerosol, on Monday(26th) in our elementary school and wanted to call me so that I would have time to consider my decision. As of today, we have made the decision to have them administer the Flu Mist rather than the Flu Shot. This decision comes with great concern and I just cannot wrap my head around the idea that the thimerosol free shot is not readily available for high risk families. If we wait and miss the school clinic, there is a chance the girls may not be able to get the shot in the coming weeks as there is great shortage in our area. As for my health, I have been beefing up our family with vitamin c, vitamin d and I will be using the airborne tablets starting tonight. I have an appt with my specialist Tuesday and will get an IV infusion of vitamins, etc to help fight any exposure to this flu. As this decision weighs heavily on my husband and myself this seems to be the safest path for our girls. It is a known fact that there is toxic mercury in the shot, whether the amount is ok or not - that is not a chance I am willing to take. What is the unknown is how sick I may get, if at all. am also hoping our girls do not have any reactions to the mist. I will keep all of you updated on how our girls handle the mist and any reactions any of us get, so that I can maybe help inform others in making this difficult decision. Please keep us in your prayers. Take Care.
Good Luck everyone it is a hard Choice, however though the swine flu may be real, that does not mean these vaccines are safe, my suggestsion, a-ask your dr what is in them, im sure he does not know, b. see if the dr or schools, govt will write you a letter telling you that this vaccine is 100 safe, even 99%, they wont. They have made mistakes with the past swine vaccine and recently the gardisil, and it worries me that this was so rushed that it is possibly going to have very bad effects later on in life, not now. Please i encourage all to check out these two videos in order and then do your research later on google, to see that the people are real. GOOD LUCK ALL, and remember just because a Dr says to jump doesn't mean you say how high. All dr will tell you something diff, but ultimatly they do not know a lot about Neurology, and do work for a higher figure!
