Vitex

Hi everyone.  I'm new to this forum and wanted to get opinions on Vitex.  I take it and it does seem to help with my cycles.  Wondering what everyone else's experience with this herb are.  I also take folate, metafolate, baby aspirin (I have a clotting disorder), DHA, B12, B6, you name it vitamin-wise, I take it, unless it is not recommended for ttc or pregnancy.  Also, is anyone else using the "Making Babies" method.  I just bought this book and I'm thinking about following it.

Yes, I agree that people tend to take things they know very little about and it can have the opposite affect they want!  I have an issue with my luteal phase.  It is very short.  My cycles are from 22-26 days long with an ocassional 28 or 29 day cycle thrown in there.  I used to spot for one or two days and that is it.  Now I have a regular period, but still my cycles are short.

YES YES YES -- Making Babies book!  Absolutely love that book and regardless of whether I am ever going to be able to conceive, I am healthier, happier, and wiser.  LOL  I tried reading "The Infertility Cure" first but found it confusing.  After reading Making Babies I find the 2 books together are fabulous.  These books are not promising that you will conceive, but are giving you tools to help reach your maximum fertility potential naturally.

I'm 46, so progesterone is an issue for me (all women naturally decline in progesterone production as they age).  But, I don't take Vitex, yet anyway.  Basically it's because I don't know what my levels are because I haven't consulted any one or had any tests.  If you get too much progesterone you can stop yourself from ovulating or from getting your period.  While vitex is natural and recommended for many, it's not just like vitamin C or something really benign.  It's used because it DOES affect fertility.  But if progesterone isn't an issue for you, then it's possible to be confusing your hormones and messing up your cycles rather than helping them.  If you know you have an issue and know how to take it, awesome.  But I think too many people hear that it's helpful, but don't hear that it's not helpful if you don't have an issue with progesterone.

That said, I do use OTC natural progesterone cream (Emerita brand).  I recognize that I do need it (based on my BBT) and using the cream is easy and simple to control.  I use it from the day after ovulation until AF or confirmed BFN so as not to interfere with my cycle.  Again, I'm sure there are probably other things that could be very helpful for me but I have not gone to anyone to get my levels tested.  I ovulate every month, have regular cycles, and am pretty healthy so I'm not worried about it much.  My acupuncturist just ordered an herbal blend for me specifically.  It's based on my "Stuck and tired" body type, my age, and to help my blood flow and fertility.  She uses the 2 books I mentioned earlier in her practice and I trust her completely.  Looking forward to seeing how I respond.  I've been seeing her weekly for 2 months now and am astonished at how my hormones (as evidenced by my temperatures) have responded.  Two more months and my follicles should be ready to start producing my healthiest eggs.  Looking forward to the potential!!

All the very best to you!  SSBD!!
