If you visit your doctor, they will likely test for Strep. If you have Strep, it is VITAL you take antibiotics, or you will most likely get worse. There are also a few other things they will check to make sure it isn't something more than just a sore throat.
But, I still have to agree. Antibiotics are not always the way to go! Do what works for you. Some say honey and tea works for them, some say warm drinks, some say cold drinks. I personally nurse slurpies, bland and soft foods, and mild cough drops. Try to avoid anything that might make things worse, like spicy, salty, or too textured foods.
Salt+warm water is what the doctors will recommend. This is disgusting, but does help somewhat.
