Various questions....

Hi. i have a couple of questions i was wondering you could clear up? I've been pretty worried... My right breast is around 2 bra sizes larger than my left, and although i hear that it's normal for women, mine is *very* noticeably larger... I've also noticed that both of my nipples are also bleeding and slightly cracked and very sore, as well as both hurting me as though i have been punched or hit in my breasts, with both throbbing at random times and even being sore to touch or have my bra fabric rest on.

As well as this, i have never had a regular period. I started when i was 13 and i am now 18, and they have always been irregular. Usually i miss a month or so then have a heavy period, or have an extremely heavy period lasting over a week then nothing the next month then a period that lasts perhaps two days and my cramps are always severe, sometimes causing me to throw up or not be able to walk from the pain, but over the past year i've not actually had a period since November 2009 (it's now August 2010) though i sometimes get cramps as though i am on my period some months - though of cause nothing comes.

I went on the Pill to see if i could regulate my period last year from the months January (09) to June (09) but they did nothing to help, with my period refusing to come during the week i left for it to come on the period. It's like my body was rebelling against me trying to control it, and in the end i just came off.

However, i noticed that when i was with my boyfriend, even after i had come off the pill i never had the ability to get pregnant. I wasn't physically trying (don't get me wrong) but i had assumed that because no period came, i couldn't get pregnant, and though i realize that isn't the best form of contraception - it did work, as i am most definitely *not* pregnant, yet i used no protection. I'm not sure if this is sheer luck or something to do with my irregular period (and the fact that i haven't had one in almost a year now...) Is there a chance i am infirtile? When i spoke to a women at the walk in clinic when i was first worried that i could be pregnant she simply said that my period would come eventually, though months on, i'm not so sure.

I have a history of Cancer in my family on my mothers side (she has 8 other brother and sisters not including herself, and all have had different forms of cancer, including her mum and dad) and i actually lost my mum to cancer 3 years ago. My father's side also has a history of Cancer in the women, with my dad's mum having breast cancer. I'm worried that perhaps there could be some link - is Cancer genetic?

Sorry about all the questions and the essay :) I'm just wondering if you could confirm whether i should book in to see my doctor or now (i've been putting it off, but i'm getting quite worried now as it is knocking on  year since my period, and my breasts pain is beginning to bother me quite a bit, plus... it's kind of embarrassing hehe...)

You need to make an appointment with your doctor. Yes, there is a genetic link to some cancers, including breast cancer. It does sound like you have a hormonal imbalance, which should be corrected. Do call soon, as you don't want to put this off any more than you already have. Good luck.

Yes, you should definitely see a doctor.  There are many things that could be going on with you - hopefully they are all easily treated.  I know it's kind of embarrassing.  You have to remember that doctors have seen it all - and what you're worrying about is not going to be anything more than a typical exam to them.  Make an appointment first thing in the morning - explain that you're having breast pain and bleeding and that you've had no period for several months.  They may be willing to see you sooner that way.  Be sure to take a list of your questions with you so you can ask the doctor.  It's good to know the answers.

i suggest you go to the doctor as fast as you can. i dont know anything about breast cancer but with all that stuff you said about your breasts, it might mean you have it.
