locked jaw?

ever since i got my braces off and my new retainer (night time only, it looks kinda like invisiline but its not) i assume ive been clenching my teeth at night cause when i wake up my jaws "locked" and i couldnt open it more then an inch
but it would always go away after an hour or two. Well something changed i think because my jaw has been locked for 4 days now.
is there anyway i can unlock it? because i would LOVE to be able to eat food again thats not cut into tiny pieces. (not to mention it HURTS now)
i am going to ask my mom to get me into the dentist, but who knows how long that could take. and im not sure, but i think my jaw is slowly starting to open less and less...

thanks :)
today i went to orthodontist, they said i got tmj and that its most likely caused by my retainer so they are ordering a new one that wont make me want to clench/grind my teeth in my sleep and for now i have to wear the original retainer during the day.
day 7 of jaw still locked coming up, but hopefully it unlocks soon :D

Make sure to see your dentist, but until then you can try doing different jaw stretching exercises. Just trying to move your jaw more and more to loosen it up and you can also try putting a warm wash cloth along your jaw or putting your mouth/jaw under a warm shower to loosen the area up some. Hope it goes well.
