Not necessarily.  It's super hard to tell when your first period comes.  I for instance was a late one. Not until I was almost 16.  But from ages 14 to 16  I would constantly be looking out for it because any little symptom that could possibly mean it could be my period coming freaked me out-but it wasn't.  The first time I got mine I had no symtoms-i had no idea I got mine until I felt something strange so I went in the bathroom (at school!) to check and there it was.  So I guess I would just always be prepared & have stuff in your purse whenever the time comes, otherwise don't worry about it:)

Hi, i understand your concern about your period, just because you get cramps doesnt mean you are having your period. I was almost 16 years old before i had mine, it felt like my stomache hurt and i went to use the restroom and i saw blood. I havent had many cycles. I was a late bloomer like my mom. And my cycles last for at most 7-8 days... i only get mine once every 3 months. But not all people are like that. It depends really on how far apart they are. Dont worry darling you will just fine. If your cramps hurt really bad tell your parents or legal gardian. They will know what to do
