Disc displacement(TMJ) after Wisdom Tooth extraction

I had got my wisdom tooth extracted (right side (top and bottom), on 14th feb 2008.

Post the extraction, .. the gums seemed to heal well, .. but I had trouble opening my mouth. For, the first 2 weeks i thought it was something that would go away, but it didn't. So, I went back to my dentist, he prescribed skelliaxin(muscle relaxant) i was have that, .... with no improvement.

I went to a TMJ specialist today,.. for a second opnion,.. and have found out that my disc at the TMJ has been displaced.
The doctor gave me some injections in my jaw, .... and has prescribed a device(brace), .. which i should be wearing........

Did this happen to me because of something the dentist did during the extraction,.. cause its been there, since that day?  (cause he yanked on the jaw too hard, .. whilst pulling my tooth)
please help....

I think extractions can make a small problem a bigger one, but they will not create a problem where there wasn't one.  I've heard (seen) this happen too many times unfortunately, by oral surgeons as well as dentists.  Good dentits and oral surgeons screen their patients for TMJ disorders prior to extractions and then will be more careful or have the TMJ treated first.  It's water under the bridge now.  Wear your 'brace' as prescribed and I have no doubt you will improve.  Shivani, sounds as if you should be evaluated by a TMJ specialist.  There is help........

hi,
i've been in excruciating pain since march 17th, after having my lower right wisdom tooth extracted. the "butcher" dentist put extreme pressure on my jaw to crack the tooth, he was hanging on my head....i developed  dry socket, and have been in pain ever since...i've seen a neurologist who diagnosed me w/ t.m.j., and i now have to have x-rays done of my facial bones.......i've even gone to see an e.n.t, because my right ear/jaw/gland is killing me. every time i talk for more than a couple of minutes, my gums where the tooth was extracted seem to swell, and my throat begins to hurt,(becomes very sore...). my ear pops, ....all the e.n.t. could tell me was my muscles were very tight, and it could take weeks to go away.......im afraid that i have nerve damage. if you find out what happened to you, could you please let me know.....
