TMD and jaw surgery

I need jaw surgery to widen my upper palate and move my jaws into proper position. Has anyone had sucess with also curing TMD symptoms (headache, very tight and spastic jaw/facial muscles) or making them worse?
I'm wondering about the intitial phase for moving teeth which lasts 12-14 months before the surgery is completed. I'm already taking advil/tylenol every other day and this flare-up will not settle down. I would hate to go through the work and have my jaw issues worst at the end. I'm spending the $8000 for a third set of braces because it seems the best choice to try and fix the jaw.
I know your bite becomes worse before the surgery so any tips on how it affects TMD symptoms would be appreciated. Any stories are also welcomed.
