I’m 34-year old male and about 6 months ago after exercising (running) for the first time in quite a few months, my vision became blurred. It has lasted with me since – sometimes it is more noticeable than others, but always present. It is worse in bright (fluorescent) areas and it’s almost like everything seems a little busy (similar to looking at a busy design, but applied to everything I see) or the initial visual changes after 1-2 glasses of wine. My blurred vision is in both eyes.
I’ve seen many specialists who couldn’t figure it out – general doctor, neuro-ophthalmologist, optometrist, and a neurologist. I’ve also had an MRI done on my brain, which came back completely normal. I’m on no medication. In doing some general reading, I seem to have some symptoms of TMJ (jaw joints make sounds, occasional click, light sensitivity, teeth sensitivity, my jaw gets tired quickly when I’m having work done at the dentist, or when singing for more than a minute (no I’m not a singer)). I also read than TMJ can cause blurred vision in extreme cases.
My wonderful dentist who I really like thinks I need braces to correct an overbite, which I will do. I have not yet had a chance to mention this to him, but was wondering if TMJ could really be a cause of my vision. Perhaps the high impact exercise somehow messed up my jaw joints or something like that. If so, could braces help alleviate my vision issue? If not braces, what could I do to help TMJ is this is a possible symptom – I’ve read about some jaw exercises online. Or perhaps, I’m completely in left field.
