A related discussion,
heart paps was started.
My pharmacy used to send me Synthroid, but now they send me Levothroid.
I reduced my meds on my own however I am surely not recommending this approach as it may be very dangerous for some people. I reduced them becasue I was having palps quit a bit but I also started having night sweats which increased to daytime also. Nausea and increases menstruation also made me beleive I was overmedicated. My docs are not endo docs and did not think this had anything to do with my thyroid but I just knew it did so I took the chance and started on 100 every other day instead of 100 a day. It worked quit well for a couple weeks but then the sweats started again and increased so I am now taking 77 every other day. I guess I will see how that works. I would really prefer to do this under a knowledgeable doc but I can't get into a endo doc until July. I am getting a TSH test today or tomorrow.
When I was on my meds last time I tossed them because of the palps and started taking CoQ10s which helped. I felt soooo much better. That was when I was on 50mcg, now I am on 150. My doc told me I cannot stop taking them or my nodules could grow and become cancerous but if my palps get worse to come back to him and get on beta blockers again. I have noticed since being back on thyroid meds that they have gotten worse, they aren't really that bad ...yet..but bad enough that it worries me. I get upset because between the palps and my thyroid over the last couple of years has really turned my life upside down, between medical bills and worrying, I am stressed out!!!!
Did you reduce your meds on your own or at the advice of your dr? And I know what you guys are going throught with the palps turning your life up side down. I feel like it is starting to take over mine. They seemed to have gone away for alittle but they are back again. It is very frustrating and scary. My cardiologist said that they weren't harmful but i really find that hard to believe. I don't really want to have to start taking heart meds either. Sometimes all I do is think about my palps and woory about when the next one will come.
I relate heart palps with over medication. It happened to me and I reduced my meds which worked.
I know what you are going through. I went to doc 2 yrs ago about my heart skipping beats/fluttering, at the time they weren't bad. He put me on 25mcg of Synthroid at first and I felt better, he then upped my dose to 50 and my PVC's went haywire, my heart was skipping beats 10-25 times a minute. I went to emergency room and had an EKG done, it was ok, the doc there put me on beta blockers and they got better, when i went to my regular doc he changed my beta blockers and the PVC's came back. I then had holter moniter and echo, i have mitral valve prolapse, all he said was to take antibiotics before dental work/surgery, thats it!!! So frustrated with such little empathy from doc i tossed my thyroid meds and the PVC's calmed down, I also started taking CoQ10's..they really help!!! Well, i recently went to another doc so I could kinda "start over" with a doc who understands more. He has put me now on 150mcg of Synthroid just this past Friday because I now have a Goiter/Thyroid nodules, from the 50mcg he put me on a few weeks ago. I am terrified that my bad PVC's are gonna come back, they were kinda bad last night. I guess I will be put back on beta blockers. Docs can tell u all they want that they aren't life threatening, I wish they could experience them like we do. I get very little sleep when they are bad. You are the first person i have found who also has bad reaction to synthroid, but unfortunately we can't stop taking them. It's like my heart and thyroid are battling eachother, to make one better the other suffers. Please keep me updated!!
Have you tried Levoxyl? The other suggestion is make sure you tell your Doctor to attach a "Do Not Substitute" order on the prescription. I had no problems with brand name Synthroid but had palpitations with the generic form. Good luck
