Antithyroid antibodies and depression - need scientific references

Can anybody provide references to medical research on this topic?

I want to talk to my PG about relationship of depression and antibodies. He thinks my depression and anxiety are result of emotions. He thinks that only solution to this is Xanax and Zoloft.

I will appreciate your help.

Lak, that test if I'm spelling it right is the "Anti-Nuclear Antibodies" Test. It is to check your immune system for possible autoimmune problems. These can be elevated with just about any autoimmune disease, so is a more general test for autoimmune disease detection.

Do you know what a positive ANA titer means?  I know it has something to do with antibodies.

Hi Diehard, If you will do a search on Google.com, Ask.com or MSN.com, and put in search words "antithyoid antibodies and depression", you will see literally hundreds of research articles. The Medical community has know for a long time that "hypothyroidism" causes depression, this is an absolute but what these research projects were looking for, was depression caused by thyroid antibodies, without lab evidence of hypothyroidism in the subjects they studied. EVERY conclusion I have ever read said that these antbodies DO CAUSE DEPRESSION in patients who are not yey hypothyroid! One article I saw was from all the way back in 1985 and was published in "The American Journal of Psychiatry".
I wish I knew why some Dr.s play dumb about this but I can tell you for certain that some do! I don't know if it is because they had rather prescribe an antidepressant rather than treat the thyroid condition or what, only God knows their motivations.
I hope you'll do that search, you'll be amazed at how much there is about this.
