Calcium levels and Vitamin D supplements

Dear Dr. Lupo, prior to taking prescription Vitamin D (50K IU 2x/wk) my calcium levels were elevated (10.3) with low Vitamin D.  I started taing Vitamin D supplements and my calcium level dropped to 9.2.

Why would my calcium level drop after taking Vit D supplements?  Does this suggest a possible Parathyroid issue?

Thank you.

This is possibly parathyroid.   Would like to know what your parathyroid levels were / are.

With Ca of 10.3 and low vit D, primary hyperparathyroidism is the most likely problem.  Calcium fluctuates quite a bit so having a level of 9.2 does not exclude hyperparathyroidism.

Would follow trend and check PTH levels.
