Can Taking Extra Levoxyl to Maintain Weight Backfire?

I am a 44 year old female who maintains a good weight of 128 - 130 through somewhat regular exercise and moderately healthy eating.  I've been taking 75 mcg Levoxyl for over 10 years.  In May - June, I frequentely took 150 mcg in an effort to not gain weight while I was NOT exercising and NOT eating well.  This may have helped keep off the weight for awhile -- not sure -- but since going back to the correct dose, I have weighed around 138 - 142.  In the past, whenever I've gained a few pounds from over-indulging, a few days of watching what I eat and going to the gym have gotten me back down.  This isn't working this time.

My question:  did I throw my metabolism off by upping my dosage (I know I shouldn't have done that -- just seemed like an easy fix) then taking it back down?  Or did that not really affect anything, and I just need to face the fact that at my age, I need to work harder and harder to maintain my weight?

Thank you for your help.

There should not be any signifcant change to the metabolism with what you went through.  Extra thyroid hormone does not help as much with weight as many people think.

The vast majority of overweight people have absolutely nothing wrong with their thyroid

I assume you are hypothyroid?

Do not take more than the prescribed amount of Levoxyl.

Make sure to get regular labs to maintain your TSH at the proper level.

Taking too much can cause you to go hyperthyroid- a place you don't want to go. It is dangerous to your body.
