Can you have hypothyroidism and experiencing weight loss?

I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. And for the past few months have been experiencing weight loss.
Is that possible? And I cannot tolerate synthroid. Is there another form of thyroid medication that I can take that wont cause such horrible side effects? My doctor says I am underweight and suggested me to drink a nutritional drink such as Ensure. How can I put on weight with hypothyroidism?

I have been tested twice and both tests have come back with hypothyroidism. I was reading online that you can have hypothyroidism and still be experiencing weight loss.

Off hand I would say that usually people gain some weight when hypothyroid. And lose weight when hyperthyroid. But not everyone is alike.

Synthroid is T4, straight thyroid hormone. There are other brands and Armour which is desiccated pig thyroid.

Having horrible side effects when going on thyroid meds sounds like either what's really ailing you isn't your thyroid, or your initial dose was too high.
