If the TSH is 6 - you are hypothyroid and may need more medication. The need for more meds is likely due to premarin (estrogen binds thyroid hormone and increases the amount of replacement meds needed in many patients). The symptoms are mixed and may be more menopausal than thyroid.
Actually you may be surprised that some people get the opposite symptoms of what they have.
Hyper people get they hypo symptoms and Hypo people the hyper. It is always good to look at the levels of your blood work. You could had been hyper and still had the hypo symptoms.
Since your doctor upped your dosage make sure you get your blood work checked again after 6 weeks to make sure you are on the correct dosage. It takes some tweaking and patience. I had a TT almost 15 yrs ago and here we are still tweaking the dosage....
Good luck.
Do you mean your TSH is 6.0? If so, that would indicate hypothyroidism. Hyper TSH level is below .3.
The higher the TSH means hypo. It could be why you are not losing any weight.
Look into the hypothyroid symptoms.
Thanks for getting back with me. I have been reading about Premarin and it can likely cause the problem. I would like to get off Premarin and take a natural hormone replacement, or should I stay on the Premarin. What do you think about that and just how do I do that? I know I shouldn't just quit taking it suddenly.
Thanks for the help. I knew I didn't have the symptoms of Hyperthyroid. I have always had low thyroid. I have really tried for a couple years to lose weight but to no avail. My Dr. uped my med and hopefully that will help.
Thanks.
