Clarify Auto Immiune Thyroidism

Please someone clarify for me. My TSH levels are 26.5 my cholestrol 312. Originaly a pri med Doctor told me I had a underactive thyroid. She referred me to another doctor. This a doctor of internal medicine and pulmonary. This doctor done a ultrssonic scan on my throat and a nuclear uptake and more blood work. The diagnosis was auto immuine thyroidism and also my liver is producing to much cholestrol. Now I read that auto immuine thyroidism is underactive is that correct and if so why would my doctor prescribe me crestor. I read the crestor cautions and it warned of taking this with a underactive thyroid. I have a appointment with a endocronicalgist in two weeks please someone give me some advice on what I should ask the doctor or what I should do. I am 35 year old male in good shape with a very good diet and lots of cardio exersize. Please help me

The most common cause of low thyroid is autoimmune (hashimotos).  The high cholesterol is due in part to decreased liver receptors for cholesterol in the setting of hypothyroid.  My advice: fix the thyroid first, then consider lipid medications.  THere is an inc'd risk of muscle damage due to crestor type meds in patients with untreated hypothyroidism.
