Coughing with little voice

RA1
Ok recently I posted some questions, but will remind everyone. In April I had total thyroidectomy.I had my RA done in May. Retested in August everyone turned out ok. Will be going back to retest in 6 months I think that's how works. Anyway, a week ago my mother had a cold and pasted on me, but my cold is not like my mothers. She was sneezing; I was not sneezing all the time but vaguely. I started with a sore throat. Now sore throat gone, but coughing continuing with chest congested. The cough makes so tired. Can't sleep at nite. I'm using a cough medicine, but it does not help that much. Any suggestions? Especially for sleep.

I am still in the testing phase of thyroid issues. Have had my ultra sound done, and my uptake scan, and I am being referred to an Endocrinologist, but I thought I would comment on the cough. Everytime I eat or drink something, I have a phlemmy cough for hours. I'm guessing this has somthing to do with the nodules, is this true? Any information is appreciated in advance.

I tend to suffer chronic chest congestion. For starters, you don't want to suppress your cough. That said, I hope it isn't hurting you when you do cough.
Drink *plenty* of water (thins mucus and allows it to come up easier.) Things that help bring up the gunk: steam, Guifenisen helps (Mucinex or syrup) bring it up (it's an expectorant, not a suppressant.)
Receiving karate chops across the back may help break some of it up.
There are a few supplements reported to help: Bromelain and n-acetyl cysteine (NAC). That said, it's *important* to read up thoroughly on anything that you are thinking to take.

When I get colds, I tend to up my C & Zinc.

You want to keep that "gunk" moving out from your lungs. If you are running temps, it'd be time to visit the Dr.

I hope you feel better soon, RA1.
