the presence of antibodies means the goiter is likely due to Hashimoto's -- not sure if you are on thyroid meds, but assumed so by the way you mentioned the tsh is down to 0.6. Antibodies do not predict cancer, but some research suggests increased cancer in hashi.
A single nodule is no more or less likely to be cancer than multiple nodules according to recent research. If the nodule is increased in size or has suspicious US characteristics, then FNA is recommended.
The important part here is the symptoms -- if these increase, then there is little alternative to relieve them other than removing the thyroid.
OOps!
Just realized you DID post this to Dr. Lupo - my computer logged on to his site!!
I just returned from my new ENT (who I LOVE BTW!!)
My current ENT wanted to remove my Thyroid - although I have none of the problems which you described.
I sought out this new ENT for a second opinion. She said as I was having NO problems breathing, swallowing, no hoarseness - NO SURGERY!
I was also diagnosed with a prominant nodule - that supposedly had grown quite rapidly in just a matter of months. But when I went in for a Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) the Radiologist could not find a prominent nodule - so no biopsy. And they haven't seen it again on another US.
But in regards as to what you would do in this case - I would post your questions to Dr. Lupo here on this forum.
I am a huge advocate of second opinions - it is your health and your right!
Good luck!
