Fever and Muscles aches

I have posted before, found complex nodules from ultrasound on my left and right sides.  Waiting to see general surgeron for biopsey.  Question:  Is this normal, I am so tired, can't put one fooot in front of the other.  Now I'm experiencing fever and muscle aches.  Can this be related to the thyroid?

hi everyone since everyone no so much about thyroid I really wanted to ask something I had thyroid gland n I went for radioactive iodine 7 weeks before  n it has been 3 weeks I had sore throat n after week of having sore throat I got chills n fever which didn't remained contiously between 100.4 f till 103.8 for 16 days until I got admitted in hospital n got antiboitic in which doc said ur lungs got infected coz of that you got fever but I'm discharged n fine now but it washy coz of taking radioactive iodine??? N will I be getting hypothyrodism coz of taking radioactive iodine??? N hypothyroid doesn't have any permanent cure except taking medicines for the rest of ur life??? I'm really very worried coz of hypothyroidism n I believe i have more chances of getting it after going through the Internet search can someone please give me proper guideness??

Just wanted to tell you that you are not alone!  I am getting REALLY NERVOUS MYSELF!  I think, like you, that this has been such a long haul - and I am so ready to see the light at the end of the tunnel.  I agree that it is good to have someone to commiserate with!  Geez, with TSH that high, how on earth WERE you functioning?!  Wow, I would have been on the floor.  My highest in the past few years was at around 9 something - and most recently (in the last year or so)was at 5 something. - The labs normal values were at 5.5 - so I must have been like at 5.4 or something.  So my tsh has been at this same rate for the last year.  Doc would not up meds b/c I was "in normal range"
Yeah, my surgeon mentioned that he would have me take a calcium supplement after surgery...not sure for how long.  I will keep posting as well...better yet - email me so that we don't continue to use up space here.  tired_in_nc***@****

Thanks for the thoughts. Im getting a little nervous, but im sure I will be ok. Wed is the big day and it has been a long time. I went from hypo to hyper and its like an emotional roller coaster. I will keep you posted and hope you keep me posted as well. It sounds funny but im really glad to chat with someone who is going for surgery the same time as me. My initial labs were out of this world. My endo told me that I had the highest levels she has ever seen and that I broke her record. my TSH level was 278 she was surprised I was functioning. I also felt like **** and the muscle aches, the hair loss and brittle feeling the moody attitude, the eye tearing etc was really awful. I can't belive that the thyroid controls so much it really is amazing. Did they infom you of the possible calcium complication after surgery? Inform you surgeon or MD if you experience any tingling in your fingers, mouth etc. From what I understand they will be checking calcium levels frequently. I will be in the hospital for a few days and then off for about 2 weeks. I hope it will be a quick recovery. I had my TT in May. Now that the surgery is over I can say that it wasn't that bad.  Right after surgery I had a bad sore throat (lasted a week) due to the breathing tube they used during surgery and also had a drain coming from the incision (drain removed after 3 days), a sore neck, but no pain coming from the incision.  I had swelling above the incision and I had difficulty swallowing for a few months which got better and better with time, until the swelling above the incision went down. Still have very slight swelling. Worked from home the week after because I felt too weak to drive but others have said they returned 5 or 7 days later.  After everything was over, I read that a neck pillow might help the neck soreness after surgery, so you may want to give it a try. I took Cepacol lozenges for the sore throat and continued to do so afterwards because it helped when the swallowing was difficult.

I took cytomel while waiting for the RAI scan, which I will get on Sept. 6th. Since I had stage 1 papillary confined to the small nodule I had (I was lucky they found it so early since I had no symptoms and blood work was normal....except I had palpitations and after all heart tests were normal, my internest decided to do a sonogram on my thyroid which is how the nodule was found), the radiologist said I may not need the RAI treatment after the scan....will depend on if they find thyroid tissue or not.  I stopped the cytomel 4 days ago to start the prep for the scan and so far so good. btw...I could have had the RAI scan sooner but due to my son graduating from HS and a cruise we went on in August 7th I asked it to be in Sept.

Thanks so much - and good luck to you as well.  I don't know if you are interested, but I joined a group on yahoo groups - thyca.  I don't post much there but I have learned alot and there is some really good info.  Anything you want to know, you can find it there.  
I know what you mean about the 'Long Haul'.  I have been back and forth to the doc for almost two years now with hypo symptoms and had blood work done each time with my TSH coming back "within normal limits" - but mine would be on the high side...somewhere around 5.0.  Family Physicans don't have a clue about thyroid panels - or it seems that way to me.  The way i have had it explained is that with high TSH - it's a cancer feeding ground.  I do know that once the thyroid is out, they will try to keep me suppressed with TSH levels less than 1.0.  All I can think about is that with TSH that low - I am going to feel sooooo much better.  I have been feeling like **** for the last two years.  It is a long haul with this as well....probably looking at close to a year before all is said and done, with radioactive iodine, going hypo and whole body scan and then titering with drugs to find proper dose....but at this point, I can atleast see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Best of luck to you on your surgery. Mine is scheduled for 8/30/2006. Total thyroidectomy. I can't wait to get it over with also. It has been a long haul. I was wondering if anyone know's what to expect after the surgery? Thanks

I can relate to being anxious. I was recently diagnosed with papillary cancer and possible node involvment.  I am having surgery on August 31.  Ready to get this over with - and maybe get my life back on track.  I have been sooooo tired and sick for the last couple of years....thank god this is a slow growing cancer.  Good Luck to you - I wish you good health!  It sounds like you have been through the "waiting game" before....so sorry you are having to do it again.  Keep posting and let us know how it goes.....Lots of support here!

Hey,
The fatigue and muscle aches are definately HYPOthyroid symptoms.  Are you on any thyroid hormone?  I recall seeing somewhere in all my reading, that fever can also be a symptom as well.  Try to google hypothyroidism and see if those symptoms sound like yours.  I know that the doc here can give you more definitive answers.  Just thought I would mention this.

Complex nodules do not cause symptoms unless the thyroid blood tests show an abnormality -- with a normal TSH, tese symptoms are unlikely related.  See your primary for eval.
