Fingernails discolored under nail

I have a problem that I have never had before and am wondering if it could be related to my Graves Disease.  All of my fingernails are discolored underneath the nail, and look like they are scratched on the surface of the nail.  I am hyperthyroid at the moment and am only taking Lipitor nothing else.  Is this something related or something new?

Thank you

I found out the nail discoloration is from splinter hemmorhages.  Any comment on the possible cause?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
hyperthyroidism can cause nail changes -- may be time to treat the hyperthyroidism.

a dermatologist may be helpful in determining other, non-thyroid, possible causes.
