hi Dr. Prasad, today I almost completed my 9th week of pregnancy. 4 weeks ago my TSH was 17 and FT4 is 1.8. now, the TSH went down but still high; it is 8.27 and my FT4 1.5, my doctor increased the dose in a very strange alternate manner to 250 one day and 200 the next day.
My concern is the fetus and its health and development, is he taking his dose from the medication, what if the 1st trimester passed and my TSH remained high. I am always hearing that since I am under medication with close monitoring no matter the reading me and my baby are fine.
Please let me know if there is any risk on the baby development.
Dear Dr. Lupo,
We have done the Thyroid tests after 4 weeks from the above and I am in the 9th weeks now, the TSH went down but still high; it is 8.27 and my FT4 1.5, my doctor increased the dose in a very strange alternate manner to 250 one day and 200 the next day.
My concern is the fetus and its health and development, is he taking his dose from the medication, what if the 1st trimester passed and my TSH remained high. I am always hearing that since I am under medication with close monitoring no matter the reading me and my baby are fine.
Please let me know if there is any risk on the baby development.
Thank you very much, appreciated
No - it's not too late and the dose increase is appropriate. The overall risk is still very low for problems with the baby, but careful monitoring (as is planned) of the thyroid treatment is essential.
