Hypothryoid and lossing weight

I have been battling hypothyroid for over 2 years now. I am not sure what to do.  At times my levels are normal but then they rise again.  Currently I am high again.  I have put on over 70 pounds in the last 2 years and can not get it off.  I have exercised for 5-7 days per week, and was VERY strict on my diet.  Over almost a years time doing this, I lost ONE pound.  SO for the last 6 months I haven't bothered. Does it make a difference?  I understand it is good for my well-being, my health and heart....however, am I, can I, EVER loose weight while my levels are off?  Even when they were stabilized it still didn't work.  Is is a matter of trial and error and waiting for my Dr to find the right dose and combinations? Right now I am on a low dose of synthroid and cytomel.  I have lost nothing and feel like I am getting even bigger.  What should I do and how can I help this??  Can I help this?  Could this be from the Atkins diet?

Thanks for all your thoughts and suggestions.  I am currently taking Cytomel.  I weigh 200 pounds and should weigh around 130.  It is just terrible, so mentally draining.  I too feel as if a part of my life has been stolen from me.  I refuse to accept that I will be like this for the rest of my life.  I am going back to the gym tonight, that at least makes me feel like I am doing everything I can.  In the past it has not worked at all but mentally it helps me.  I feel so disgusting with my body and literally feel like there is NOTHING I can do.  I want to find an aggressive Dr that will listen to me and work with my body to get me back on track.  It is quite an experience going from being a hot babe to a fat "cute" girl.  I will continue the battle, work out and search for another Dr that will listen and work with me.  I just wish I knew if working out has an impact or not.  Thanks!

why dont you try Cytomel

Cytomel is indicated for the treatment of hypothyroidism or in cases where the body is not producing an enough of amount of thyroid hormone. Cytomel can be used to treat low thyroid hormone count and low thyroid function. Cytomel can also be used to prevent goiter and to treat it. Goiter is a case where the thyroid gland is enlarged. It can be caused by a variety of factors such as lack of iodine, hormonal imbalances, radiation therapy and cancer.

Hey discouraged05, as I read your post it just reminded me of myself.  I understand exactly how you feel because I have been going through the same thing.  I have gained about thirty or so pounds and have also done everything to lose it.  I recently went to my Endo and cried to her for help.  She would have considered putting me on merida or something else but I am not yet considered obese.  So she basically said just keep dieting and exercising and then I cried even more.  My level are also off again.  Over the past three years my levels have been good for only about five months during this entire period of time. It is very frustrating and discouraging and I too feel fat and that a past of my life has been taking from.  But I have found some strenght by coming to this site and exchanging posts with other people who are going through this.  I am sorry I can not give you an answer or a solution.  I too was looking for one a few weeks ago.  Just hang in there and see if your doctor may be able to prescribe merida or something else.  My thoughts are with you  Sandra
