Hypothyroid symptoms although results normal

One year ago I started having symptoms of hyperthyroid- profuse diarhea, weight loss, anxiety, heat intolerance, eye pain, night sweats, muscle cramps, depression, vertigo etc.  Suddenly 6 mos after that my thyroid swelled with profuse pain and I was Dx with thyroiditis thru a thyroid uptake scan and lab results.  After the swelling subsided, I then showed signs of hypothyroid, as predicted.  My doctor said that my thyroid may start to function again on it's own or just drop off into a constant hypothyroid state.  I have been tested several times and the TSH results are always in normal range, however, I still have many Sx- weight gain, depression, muscle aches, mild carpal tunnel, irritable, constipated, poor concentration, heavy periods, exhaustion, cold intolerance and many more.... My endocrinologist has dismissed me as normal due to the results and will not recommend further treatment. Still frustrated and full of symptoms, my family doctor finally started me on Levoxyl 50mcg one week ago. It's still early and I don't seem to notice much change and will follow up with labs again in one month.  What should I expect my labs to look like with this course of treatment?  Do you feel this is an appropriare treatment course? What course of treatment would you recommend?

Thanks for your input.  My TSH is 1.54 so that "range" theory doesn't apply to me. :(  Anyway, if the RAI you are mentioning is the same thing as the scan known as the Radioactive Iodine Uptake Scan then I don't believe that this affects your thyroid.  It's a painless scan and they didn't tell me that there were any possible threats with having this done.  I hope that helps.

Hello, everyones thyroid functions well at a unique level for them in the normal range. My doctor told me this is 0.5 - 4.0. Contrary to this, there is new research which now states the normal level shoud be 0.3 - 3.0. Do you know your actual level?
Maybe you are in between 3 & 4. A lot of GP's don't know about the change of what is classified as normal. I hope this helps!!?!
Just a question: I have had hyper now for nearly a year, and my doc wants to do RAI which will almost certainly make me hypo - do you think this is worse? I don't want the Treatment just because of this. I have not lost any weight due to hyper (the one symptom that seems like a benefit!) and I am terrified that if I go hypo I will become overweight.
Good luck - I hope someone can figure you out and get you back to normal again!
