Indoral for thyroid support

I have poor general health and I feel more down, depressed and very sensitive to cold weather during fall and winter months.  I have take psychotropics in the past to treat my mental illness insomnia etc.  I also use SAD lamp but with little avail.

I just feel too cold to easily.  I had many blood test done and nothing came back abnormal for my thyroid as of yet.  I will see an endocrinologist soon.

I have read and someone with similar problem- feeling too cold that eventually disrupts normal day to day functioning, feel horrible, sleep does not repair for next day etc-- suggested me to try Indoral for thyroid support.  Basically, it is potassium iodide.

Has anyone tried this and what results did they get?  Was it helpful in tolerating cold weather.

If anyone has any other suggestions besides indoral, please let me know.  I am already struggling with mental illness and then in winter I feel terrible and can't do much everything is just hard to do especially going outside to do anything even after dressing up well.

I have done that already.  I have gone to many different gps and psychiatrist. All suggest see a psychiatrist and continue treatment with him or her. My gp says she can't do much because nothing is wrong with blood work and everything is within normal range or little out of range.  My liver enzymes were completely out of range two times.  Other times they were out of range but not much for doctor to do anything.

Psychiatrist say best is to take medicines and no one knows when I will get better and be able live without medication.

I have all these problems going on for about 7 years now.  They started in Winter 2005 and I was diagnosed treated around Winter 2006.

I have taken many medicines mostly antidepressant and anti-psychotics - trieplital, seroquol, wellbutrin (didn't help), effexor. After 1 year of treatment I came off medicines as doctor said and my illness came back again in Fall 2008 and then I was in hospital.  Doctor gave me injection of cojectin, ativan, and copixol (all are sedatives and anti-anxiety). Then was prescribed celexa and seroquol.  Seroquol became ineffective so they put me on olonzapine.  I took these meds for 1 year.  They said this should go away in a year and when you be on these meds you will be able to do things.  But it didn't turn out that way.  I was still unable to do school.  I came off of celexa which took time to adjust to thanks to withdrawals and I kept on taking olonzapine because I don't sleep well and sleep very little and because of this I can't function normal next day- anxiety, down, feel guilty etc.

This summer I got 10 acupuncture treatments. At first I was feeling worse than before and now I am better than what I started with.  She suggested to try come off olonzapine but it didn’t work.  I was unstable at lower dosage.  Before I was on 5 mg. Now I take 2.5mg and I think I am taking it at the same time each day, I think this is helping me better than before.

I believe I my condition has more to do with my poor general health, weakened body systems, lost strength, etc and that numbing these with pharmaceuticals only helps temporarily, and the longer I take I have more chances of getting side effects and disorders especially diabetes which also runs in my family.  I am on these meds for 4 years now and been on high dosage from time to time.   My GP and psychiatrist say not many people develop side effects, and since I am young nothing will happen now.  But I never buy that, individuals who took these meds for long time and on moderate to high doses have developed heart, liver, pancreas and other bodily problems, increased chance of dementia, diabetes, blood pressure, etc..  I wish I never had so many problems that I become so dysfunctional, now I have to rely on these pills for who knows how long.

Medical docs are no help, I have to look into and get natural wellness therapies so I can get strength in my system.  Sometimes this takes too much out of me.  Rest and time will help, but it is taking too much time.  I feel my time is going by and I can't do much even writing this is taking too much effort and time.  Sorry, I am complaining too much but this is what I am going through and most docs are no help.  I am on my own.

u should go to ur gp...and tell him all ur situation that what u feel...may be he will be able to help u after listening u.and prescribed u some vitamans and also for blood test...that u r fine...then all confusions will go.
secondly i was reading about throid
so there is written about HYPOTHYROIDISM:
it is a condition in which the throid produces too little hormones....
and symptoms are
feeling listless or tired
feeling cold
slow heart rate

ok.but there is no doubt that u have symptoms...it is definate that u have throid gland.
AND u also mentioned that ur repots are fine..what i suggest u is to go to ur gp and ask for blood tests again...and tell him that u feel too much cold and tiredness and whatever u feel...and than start ur treatment.
and u also mention insomnia disease is it fine now?and is this cold feeling is after having the throid gland?but the best way is to go to gp...and then he will start ur treatment....

What else can I do to improve my poor general health.  I do what I can,  I eat pretty clean, plenty of water, light exercise, I rest time to time when I need it and try to sleep early.

After 2 years of this I am very little better but progress is too slow.  What else can I do?

Generally speaking does taking iodide/iodine supplementation help with warming up our bodies?

Yes, I believe that too that because of my poor general health (which has been poor for last 4 years) I feel too cold.

There is a connection between thyroid gland and feeling cold too easily.  If you read about thyroid gland and if hormones are out of balance it can cause too much cold sensitivity.

I doubt there will be a nything wrong with my thyroid gland and poor general makes me feel too much cold. I don't mind cold weather but when I can't do much (no work and out of school), stay in home most of time, feel horrible and more weak in winter then it is worrying for me and getting through the day is just too much.  I am struggling with this for a long time 5 years now

i have also the problem that i have a throid gland....it is not too good and not too small.and my reports were also normal.they do the blood test and then fna(fine needle aspiration)FNA is a process in which first they insert a needle in the thyroid and get some fluid fron it and they they take out the needler.one year ago.after this i dont go to the dr.but i really feel weakness all the time and i am not any medication.may be ur health is not good thats why u feel too much cold....but if ur reports are normal then u should not take any medicine...for weakness and dizziness i only take vitamens capsules prescribed by my gp.otherwise there is no connection between cold and throid gland...i also feel too much cold if the weather is normal..sometimes in sunny weather i wear sweater or anything because i feel cold.so i think its normal and there is nothing to be worry about this.

If your thyroid hormone levels are normal, these symptoms are not likely related to thyroid.  Too much iodide/iodine can cause thyroid problems - so in general we do not recommend more than 150mcg of iodine supplementation per day for most people.
