Large mass on right lobe of thyroid

Hi! I was wondering if anyone else could enlighten me on some symptoms I have been having.  I am a 21 year old female and I recently discovered a large mass on the bottom right base of my neck and I believe it is the thyroid since it moves up and down when I swallow. However, it is just the right lobe and I have heard that this could be a cause for concern. I don't feel tired and haven't gained any significant weight, but I am spotting between periods. I can't get to a doctor for another two weeks so I am a bit worried. Can anyone help?

Star...hope things are going well for you...two months ago I discovered a similar mass as you described (right side only, traveled when I swallowed, no other symptoms).  I did not make an appointment right away because I was not concerned and figured it was a swollen gland that would go down on it's own. It did not go away, in fact it grew and this week I went to see an Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist who did a manual exam and throat scope scan.  He determined that it was not IN my throat and referred me for further testing (thyroid scan, blood work, ultrasound).  This website can help clarify what these tests are and what they are trying to rule-out...check it out (thyroid mass got me the best results in my search).  Good-luck and keep me posted as will I...Amron

hi im 27 and have the same thing...

go get an ultrasound done..
have your doctor order one...

you wont die waiting 3 weeks or 3 years but if its fast growiing nodule youll have symtoms in about 7 months...

get an ultrasound and the usual thyroid workups done your MD can order these.

get bloodwork and an ultrasound.

good luck

Thanks for responding seeangel! The mass doesn't bother at all except for a tingling sensation when I inhale too deeply, but it doesn't act up when I eat certain kinds of food.  In fact, I don't have any other symptoms except the spotting.  It feels as though it gets smaller sometimes but then it just goes back to being bigger.  The thing that concerns me most is that it is only one side of my thyroid--not diffuse inflammation that would indicate hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism.  I guess my question is could could it still be those disorders even if it is only on one side?

hi star firstly try not to worry hun i waited three weeks to get in to my doctor and i was really sick by this point going into tyroid storm. i had a swelling in the neck like you known as a goitre and you know what i didnt even know it was there it didnt hurt or anything . does it playup when you eat at all ? especially bread or meat? it does sound like its your thyroid it can come on gradually over a period of timewith hardly any symptoms then allof a sudden bang. the main thin is thyroid problems are treatable and the main thing is youve made that first positive step by making that appointment to see the doctor  good luck let me know xxx seangel
