Levothyroxine Vs Selenium HELP?

2 years ago I was prescribed levothyroxine for an underactive thryoid. I did some research and found Selenium to be good for thyroid problems. I take 1 tablet of Selenium, Kelp and Vit C in the morning and 1 tablet of Potassium, Vit B12, Magnesium and Calcium at night. I have had 5 blood tests and ALL say my throid is fine yet I haven't taken one of the levothyroxine tablets yet! Recently I have put on weight (Nov 07 I was 8st 2lbs and now am 9st 8lbs) I work out at a gym 5 days a week, for an hour, cardio and weights & have been doing this for 4 years. I am getting tired too. Should I start taking the levothyroxine now. My GP is unaware of my not taking them and would not be too impressed! I cannot go to them and say this as feel they will not want to treat me further. Any help offered would be appreciated. Thanks.

Many times, mild underactive thyroid will correct itself -- it's also psooible the selenium helped.  If the TSH is still borderline (? >3) and there are positive antibodies (suggesting Hashimoto's), then with your symptoms a trial of levothyroxine may help but there is  little research to support the routine use of levothyroxine in mild hypothyroidism (and on the other hand, little evidence to refute its use as well....)

Thank you for your help. Much appreciated. Now I can, at least, ask questions about this and will have to pluck up courage to see my GP.
