I had a enlarged thyriod found in 2001. A I-123 scan found a hot nodle and I was told that there was a very low chance of cancer and no further steps required by both my first and second opnion.
In April 2009 I went back to a new doctor for a physical and asked her to check back up on my Thyriod. I Had a Ultra Sound (yep nodle still there at 2.0cm), then a I-123 (yep nodle still hot), FNA (colliod found, few hemosiderin-laden macrophanges, but follicular epithelium that exclusively exhibits Hurthle cell change. A possible Hurthle Neoplasm cannot be excluded).
So I have a smaller - hot nodle for 7 years From what I read a "Hot" hurthle cell cancer is very rare and very agressive,, would I still be a live if this was really hurthle cancer given a mortality rate of 50% even after it is taken out?
I know I am bargining with myself but from what I read the following is good..
<4cm
colliod found
Hot
Age <50 (I am 35 fist found at 27)
Not growing (presently)
few macrophlanges
Am I deluding myslef????
