Results - US and Scan

Hello, Dr. Lupo,

Could you please interpret the following results:

US showed that "both thyroid lobes are normal in size.  There is a 1.0 x 0.5 cm mixed solid and cystic nodule along with two very small 3-4 mm probable colloid cysts in the lower pole right lobe and the left lobe is more inhomogeneous with mixed solid and cystic nodules seen regionally.  The largest measuring 1.6 x 1.4 cm in the mid polar region.  Impression: suspected developing multinodular gland with asymmetric left-sided predominating involvement".

Then, during the radioactive iodine scan the iodine uptake was 27% and 4-5 cold nodules were visible.
I am currently awaiting biopsy and TSH results.

FNA biopsy to confirm this is a benign nodular thyroid is appropriate.  The thyroid hormone levels (TSH) are usually normal in these cases.  Medication is not usually recommended.  Only 5-10% of this type of nodular goiter will be cancer.

I also just received my TSH results, which were normal.
