Sleep problem and thyroid

I have had hypothyroidism for 25 years. Never had a sleep problem, except for the occasional wake up turn over and go back to sleep thing. One night about a month ago (out of the blue) I woke up and when I started to relax and fall back asleep I had this horrible adrenaline rush! It continued the rest of the night. Needless to say I didn't get much sleep. This has been going on for  quite sometime now. I have tried ambien cr and it works fine but I did not want to take it for to long. As soon as I stop taking it, the rush feeling comes back. Could this be my thyroid acting up?  I am at my witts end. My doctor looks at me like i'm crazy.

I would believe it does have to do with thyroid , if you have  a nodule this can sometimes try to overwork for the whole gland and over   produce  thyroid hormone.   I was also hypo for years , but suddenly couldnt sleep, heart startling while trying to go to sleep, could not  eat (lost 45 pounds in 6 weeks) It was horrible.  Now have had ntt 3 weeks ago and only time cant sleep is when synthroid  dose is increased.

It may be too much medication -- would test TSH -- if low, decrease the dose.

To bbb444 - this would not likely be due to a thyroid nodule "intermittently" producing thyroid hormone
