TSH WENT BELOW NORMAL LIMIT AFTER TAKING SYNTHROID 1MCG FOR 4 WKS

In the begining when I took synthroid 1mcg my TSH went down from 7.8 to .19(which is below the normal limit)
now my doc wants me to take .75mcg of the same medication.  I do not have any symptoms.
can anyone give some suggestion is it necessary to take the medication again.

thanks

Hi,

It is important to keep your thryoid hormones within the normal range, even if you don't have symptoms, as thyroid is very important in controlling your metabolism and many body systems.  Untreated hypothyroid also increases risk of other problems, including heart etc..  However, with treatment I believe the risks are reduced to normal.

Some people also think they don't have symptoms, but do find they feel generally much better when treated with appropriate level of meds.

Therefore, while the 100 mcg dose was too much, the lower 75 mcg, or an 88 mcg dose may be just riight.

Best regards

A low tsh means too much thyroid hormone and an increased risk for heart rhythm problems.  There is an 88mcg dose that may be right.....
