Thyroid twice the size..

My doctor told me few years ago my Thyroid twice the size that is should be and I had 7 small nodules, they were small and wanted to keep an eye on them, my question is, why does a thyroid grow to a bigger size? My doctor told me it was just greedy with a smile, but I want to know.. was it TOO MUCH salt? or NOT ENOUGH salt? I have never added salt to my food at a table, I too cook with salt on the stove sometimes, and my 20-30's were half the times eaten in out for meals. Im 55 now... Thank you for any reply..

It's not likely salt (iodine) related - but if anything, nodular goiter is sometimes due to inadequate iodine intake.
