Heatherhcf, keep in mind that some Dr.s claim they don't have confidence in Armour because it may have dosage variations, meaning each pill in a bottle may vary but this same thing has been claimed about Synthroid, in fact the FDA got involved in this concerning Synthroid just recently.
One reason my Dr. switched me to Armour was because he said some people have problems with conversion of t-4 to t-3. Synthroid is t-4 only, while Armour has both t-4 & t-3. When you take a t-4 only med., your body is supposed to convert part of that into the more active t-3 hormone. Some people have a problem converting, so are switched to a t-4/t-3 combo or are simply given t-3 along with the Synthroid. The makers of synthroid make synthetic t-3.
Armour comes in "grains"(means 30mg units/pills). So the doseages are something like; 30mg, 60mg, 90mg, 120mg, 150mg, 180mg etc... Armour is also cheaper. I get 90 day supply for under $10.00!
I had one Dr. really downplay Armour and tried to switch me back to Synthroid. When I told my Pharmacist this, she said that usually it is the other way around, people witch from the synthetic to the natural. She also said Armour is the oldest brand out there and is the "Gold Standard".
Remember though as I said, some people do better on synthetic than natural. Each person is different.
