Graves' is the most common cause of hyperthyroidism. A blood test for TSI may help confirm this is the cause of your hyperthyroidism.
The methimazole dose you describe is very high. Most patients are treated with 10-20mg per day total. The propanolol and methimazole are commonly used together.
One concern I have is that the doctor is only looking at your TSH (which may remain low or undectable for several months even with methimazole). The key now is to follow the T4 and T3 levels and adjust the methimazole accordingly.
You need to talk with your current doctor about what testing has been done and then decide if you need a second opinion. You should not stop or change your medication without discussing with your treating physician.
My doc hasnt told me anything other than what i told u. She never said anything about t3 or t4 or tsh for that matter. Its kinda scary that she took some blood and now all of a suden im on all these meds. I weighed 108 my last appointment and im 5'6 5'7 some where in there so im not big at all. 6 10mg pills a day. What would happen if i just stop taking everything. This doc is kinda scaring me and i dont have money to get a second oppion am i better off?
I was looking around this forum and found a place where it says hyperthyroidism is from graves. My doc never said ne thing about having graves. Is this why i have this problem?
