still hyper from hypo...swollen lymph nodes in neck

I posted before stating going from hypo to hyper for last four months after having baby. Well, I have had a goiter for a few years and have now developed neck pain, jaw pain, some inner ear pain. My family doc says infection and gave me antibiotics. I have not finished out antibiotics just yet but do not feel any better. Is this something that can be related to thyroid? Should I be concerned about possible cancer? Should I go to Endo and ask for certain tests? I had CT with iodine a month ago for my stomach area. Do not want to do iodine again, especially being hyper now. What do you think about this?

I also had a baby 5 months ago. I've been to my Dr. since July with a cold that i had. he diagnosed  me with strep. providing me with antibiotics zirothamx, clarintin. I ve' taken 2 blood test and it fine. The discomfort in my  Throat still is there but it has gotten a little better but not fully. Now i'm seeing an ears, nose, & throart dr. He has me on Flonase and amoxcillin for a nasel imfection.I don't think tha all i have. I have that burning feeling in my neck down my shoulders.i do feel like i'm going to pass out sometime. I go back to the ent dr. nov 3rd i' going to demand he takes further test. My son is only 5 months and i do want to seem him grow up.

thanks.  As far as the burning sensation...if you've ever been pergnant it was alot like the kinda burning you get from skin stretching.  If you havent been pregnant, the best I can describe it is to tell you to run your thumb pretty hard acrossed the skin bewteen your other fingers slowly.

Just wanted to share what happened to ME with the swollen lymph node thing.  Keep in mind mine was an apparently very rare case.

In Feb 2000 I gave birth to my firstborn.  within 6 weeks I had lost all my preg weight and then some.  My hair started falling out about 4 months later which they said was normal for post partum.  In August I gained 30 lbs for no apparent reason.  In November I found a lump the size of a pea in my neck.  Short version...I went to a doctor a total of 8 times in the year after I found that lump.  Including visits to family doc, endo, and surgeon. Thyroid tests were fine (tsh ONLY btw) Had that lump biopsied and drained twice (it started filling back up within minutes of being drained).  Ultrasounds...you name it they did it and couldn't figure out what that lump was.  By the 8th visit the lump started at my windpipe (right side) and ended under my ear in length.  Thickness it started just a bit under my jaw bone and ended just above my collarbone.  I got frustrated and stopped going to the docs.

I had all the symptoms you mentioned.  Jaw and ear pain, I even had dizzy spells on occasion which doctor said it was from the pressure on the inner ear all of that. Some days my teeth ached too, not to mention the burning sensation I had constantly.

Went back a year later for sugery.  When they opened my neck up, they found that the huge lump that no one could figure out...was a lymph node so full of cancer it swelled to those proportions.  After the 2nd surgery to remove my thyroid, it was discovered that ALL of the lymph nodes in my neck were "infected" with the cancer and had to be removed.

All in all, my cancer was misdiagnosed because as Dr. Mark said, its rare.

Ooops. I see your original message. Called doc, says I have Hoshimotos. Told about throat and swollen lymph nodes, says to go to Ear Nose Throat doctor.

what is it that makes you say hyper?  labs?  symptoms?  are you taking anti-thyroid medication for the hyper?

yes, lymph nodes can often be swollen with Hashimoto's...although it is prudent to remember that everyone's body can be affected in different ways with hashi's/hypo - with some folks just having a few symptoms and some folks having a lot.

Given the nature of the medhelp forum (it being primarily question-answer) sometimes the medhelp folks think we might be "chatting " a bit too much.

If anyone is interested, some of us previously on this site are now congregating at another message board-widebertha's autoimmune forum.  It is really a message board forum-no dr to answer questions so your just stuck with us other patients but it a very supprotive nuturing place.

The neck, jaw, and inner ear pain really caught my attention as these were symptoms that my mother suffered with terribly for 3 decades. She had undiagnosed Hashmoto's according to her autopsy.  During her life, she saw numerous ENTs and regular GPs for this problem.  She even had surgery twice for an elongated styloid bone that they thought might be causing the problem.  Later on, she had TMJ surgery.  Docs were all the time giving her antibiotics. But nothing helped.  After being diagnosed Hashi's myself, and learning more about hypo symptoms, I have found out the neck, jaw, and inner pain is quite common in hypo...so all her life she just wasn't properly diagnosed...and her suffering did not have to happen.  So I wanted to pass that along to you in case it might be helpful.

No need for more iodine from a thyroid standpoint.  Would do TSH, Free T3/T4 and a thyroid ultrasound - that should determine if thyroid is the cause.  The best person to do this is an endocrinologist.  Your symptoms don't suggest thyroid cancer, but the ultrasound will identify any suspicious nodules.
