2nd Thyroid Nodule Biopsy

by canadaeh, Dec 21, 2007 08:49AM
I just had a thyroid ultrasound and there are several small nodules and a cyst in the right lobe of my thyroid.  I had a 2nd biopsy of the solid nodule (2.2cm) in the left lobe of my thyroid.  The nodule is now 2.6cm.  It has grown .4cm in approx. 4 months.  Do nodules keep growing?  Do they grow more after a biopsy?  What happens as they continue to grow?  Is there treatment?  I do not have the test results yet.  My antibodies TPO continue to also rise.  Thank you again for your assistance.

they do not grow after fna, but benign nodules may grow.  with the positive antibodies, may consider levothyroxine to keep tsh in low normal range...this may help slow growth.  if they continue to grow then surgery (or sometimes radioactive iodine) can be used to eliminate any pressure symptoms that may occur.  I assume the biopsies have been clearly benign...
