Am I ok

Hi, Hope You can answer my question.

I have had 2 nodules 1 on my right lobe and one on theleft of the thyroid. The one on the right is about 8mm and the other about 6mm. I have been absoluley exhausted and feeling like something is always cought in my throat. I have been doctoring for over a year they tend to think monotoring is what they need to do. I had a radio active iodine uptake test which came back unclear. I have requested a specialist whom I see Dec 6 2006 CAN'T WAIT ! should I be concerned about thyroid cancer??? More symptoms too very scary and confusing!!!

The small nodules are not likely causing any symptoms.  The iodine scan typically doesn't add much -- as in your case.  I presume the thyroid blood test (TSH) is normal.

The throat clearing/catching sensation -- most likely culprits are sinus congestion or gastro-esophogeal reflux (may even be silent heartburn).

In the absence of suspicious characteristics on ultrasound, family history of thyroid cancer or radiation exposure as a child/adolescent - would not biopsy the nodules -- simply check US every 6-12 months.

Roger That
You did not say if you had been placed on any medication or if you had had a TSH test result. Please provide as much information as you can. Also include if you have been on Zetia or Wellcol which can block the absorbtion of Synthroid.

I have been on synthroid as well as levothyroxine since I was 14 years old. Back and forth with those 2 meds. as well as up and done in dosages can not find a happy place it seems to fluctuate alot. I am sick and tired of being sick and tired. I for once would like to have some energy. Work fulltime and have to young children. What a challenge that is! tsh seems to be normal however I  wonder sometimes if i am over medicated! gaining weight not losing?

Feeling like something is always caught in your throat? That could be the synthroid/levothyroxine. Same thing, just made by different companies. I've read about people who had the same problem for years, and when they went off the medication and switched to something else, the problem went away! Don't let any doc tell you it can't be the synthroid, it is the drug of  choice for them because of the extensive marketing campaign done by the company. You probably also need to be on a T3 medication, synthroid is only T4. Could really help with those unresolved symptoms!! there are some combo T4/3 meds out there, like Thyrolar, which is synthetic, and Armour, which is natural. Or add Cytomel, which is T3 only. Go to StoptheThyroidMadness.com and read, read, read!
