Another Meds Question

Dr. Mark,
First, thanks for taking the time to answer all these questions.  Your field is quite a challenge.

When I'm on 112mcg,  my TSH runs around 7.38 with FT4  .88.  On 125mcg my TSH is around 2.00 with FT4 around 1.3 (.8-1.8). I can't remember off hand my FT3.  I believe it was low normal on 125mcg and low on 112 mcg.

As I mentioned earlier, my Dr. has allowed me to add 137mcg two days a week.  As a cyclist, I feel I'm still not where I should be and with all the studies I've read, I would likely benefit from the addition of T3.  My Dr. doesn't have much knowledge with T3 but is allowing me to look into it.  I'd like to try it but I'm not sure what dosage of T4 to drop too.  If I stay at 125 mcg and add 5mcg T3 will it put me over board or do I drop down to 112 mcg and risk being too low?  Also, do serum T4 levels rise with the addition of T3 (since your body isn't having to convert as much)???

I as well as my Dr. would appreciate your input.

Thanks

5mcg of t3 is roughly the equivalent of 20mcg of T4 -- so if you add 5mcg T3 and are balanced at roughly 130mcg/day of T4 alone, then the dose of T4 should decrease to 112mcg/day as a starting point.

help! i recently went to the doctor and had a tsh test done...my tsh level was 14.3 and dr. put me on 125 mcg of levothyroxin (levothyroxine). i have been taking meds since 4/11/07 and i have really bad headaches and nausea since yesterday 4/14/07. is it too soon for meds to play a role in this? could it be because during the weekdays i take meds at 5:00 am but on weekends i take them about 3-4 hours later? please help!
