Antibodies and Armour

by debbiebetsinger, Feb 28, 2009 03:45PM
Dr. Lupo-

Does the presence of thyroid antibodies cause Armour to be ineffective?  I was on levothyroxine and not happy with the results. Do you have any other suggestions?  I have heard of something called reverse T3.  What impact does that have on the type of thyroid meds that are most effective?

Thanks you.

No - the presence of antibodies does not cause thyroid replacement (armour, synthroid or other) to be ineffective.  Reverse T3 is not used in standard clinical practice.  It is an inactive thyroid hormone converted from T4; measuring it does not influence treatment.
