Antibodies and pregnancy

by casablancas, Nov 24, 2006 12:00AM
I'm hypothyroid and had a miscarriage at 10 weeks, I also have positive antibodies. I know there is a link between antibodies and miscarriage but is it dose dependant and is there evidence to suggest that taking thyroxine counteracts the antibodies? Or will I need to take steroids or apririn/heparin to have a succesful pregnancy?

There is evidence that women who are antibody positive have a lower miscarriage rate if they take levothyroxine (even with a normal TSH without treatment).

Steroids are not advocated to my knowledge and aspirin/heparin is used in other special situations that are unrelated to thyroid antibody status.

I am interested in what the Dr's reply is. I am TTC and have Hashimoto's as well. From what I've read, if your TSH is between 1 and 2 then it is likely your antibodies are under control and should pose little risk in a pregnancy, but I'm no expert. What is your TSH?

I am very sorry for your loss. I responded a minute ago but am not sure what happened to my post. I am interested to see what the doctor's response is. I am TTC with Hashimoto's too and from what I have read, if your TSH is between 1 and two your antibodies are generally under control and pose little risk to a pregnancy, however I am not an expert. What is your TSH?
