Cholesterol and Thyroid (Hashimotos)

by Aaria, Aug 31, 2007 08:36AM
Currently living with Hashimotos Thyroditis and on 50mg of altroxin. My thyroid levels were contolled during pregnancy but my TSH levels kept increasing. I gave birth 3 weeks ago and during my routine bloodwork my cholesterol levels came back raised at 7.2. My thyroid levels are T4 - 16 and       TSH - 4.38. Does the TSH levels cause an increase in the cholesterol level and if so how do I get my cholesterol levels and TSH level to an acceptable standard.

The TSH is a little high but not enough to cause a cholesterol of 7.2 typically.  Would get the TSH to around 1.0 then repeat cholesterol and see what needs to be done about that.  At this young age (assumption based on recent pregnancy), likely a moderately elevated cholesterol will not need medication.

My cholesterol used to be very high as well. Untreated, it rose to 9.5. On Synthroid (125) it was at 5.6 and then after switching to Armour (265mg) for a few months it actually went down to 3.4 and is still that low.
