I had my thyroid out 12 years ago due to cancer. I have taken synthroid .175 since and always done fine. All of the sudden, my t4 is .7 and my TSH 50. We concluded that this was probably due to switching to a generic and I switched back to the name. Well, 2 months later, T4 is STILL .7 and TSH is over 100. I have not started any new med I didn't take previously- I only take zoloft and have for about 2 years. I do not have any of the dietary extremes that would usually cause non-absorption, what else do I look at? I am exhausted, I have trouble focusing (mentally AND physically) my skin and hair are dry and I don't have the energy or stamina to even clean my house. HELP!!!!!

Zoloft can cause an increased clearance of thyroid meds - but this is extreme. Would be concerned for mal-absorption despite absence of other GI symptoms. Would consider testing for celiac sprue and also now that TSH is this high, the hypothyroidism itself may be causing some malabsorption and a "jump start" with cytomel is sometimes helpful. You should see a thyroid expert or endocrinologist for this problem.
