Cushing's Syndrome??

by jenmac, Feb 07, 2007 12:00AM
Hi...I'm 40 yrs. old...I had infertility in my 20's leading to Premature ovarian failure @28, and early menopause.  I have since gone on to develop HTN, Hyperlipidemia, high Cholesterol, Insulin resistance, Excessive truncal weight gain, Osteopenia (with multilpe foot fractures, from just walking & jumping)I have a round , puffy face with rosy, red cheeks (all the time, even upon waking) and my husband now tells me I have a lump developing on my upper back/ neck area.  I look awful...I don't even resemble the person I did just 5 years ago...I'm heavy, and bloated looking....something is WRONG!!!  I've never been worked up for any adrenal issues....should I be?? Any info would be Great.  Jen in NJ                                              P.S.  Does this sound like Cushing's syndrome??

More likely PCOS than Cushings - but testing a 24h urine free cortisol is worthwhile as this could be Cushings.

dear friend,
my friend's mom had Cushing's syndrome. NO doctor could figure out what it was, and her was her husband (a physician) who nailed it. She gained tons of weight, also. Research Cushing's syndrome. Ask a doctor who KNOWS. She had her thyroid removed and now takes all thyroid meds, and her weight returned and her symptoms are gone. It was a rough process. Do your research and be a good health advocate for yourself. hang in there.
