Enlarged Lymph Node 9 months after TT

by JoanFowler, Jun 07, 2008 01:48PM
Hi, I had TT August 30 for Papillary Carcinoma. Path after said it had grown extra-thryoid, but surgeon said there was no lymph involvement. 3 nodules, two around 1 cm, the other smaller. Followed with RAI i131 in October, and follow up scan in November 07  said no evidence of thyroid cells.

I finally got around to having my baseline US last week, and radiologist noted, 3 lymph nodes in Thyroid Bed, one enlarged lymph node, not huge. 1 X 1 X .6 that he told doc was "flatter" than he'd like to see, and given previous Pap Carc, to have it biopsied, which I'm doing on Monday.

Questions: How many nodes are there usually in that area? If it is recurrence, do the "RAI" it, or surgically treat? Thanks.

I think he meant "rounder" than he would like to see.  Agree with FNA - also correlate with Tg (blood test) levels.  There are 200-300 lymph nodes in the head/neck area.
