From hyper to hypothyroidism

Dear Doctor Lupon,
Good day! I have been undergoing treatment for my Graves disease since Oct. last year. I've been put on 30mg methimazole for more than a month now. My latest ft4 result was way below the normal count. I didn't have my tsh checked, though.  I asked my endo if I am hypothyroid now, but she is unclear about it. She put me on methimazole (10mg) for now until the second week of August.  My concern is, is this a cause for concern? I don't want to be hypo, just wanted my ft4 to be in the normal range.  I'm planning on having my tsh checked asap and going to another endo.  Is this a wise move or should I wait for August? Won't i be "super" hypothyroid by then? Should I still be on methimazole now, and not another medicine for hypo? thanks for the advice in advance.

Your T4 was likely low due to the relatively high dose of methimazole (30mg); lowering the dose is appropriate.  At this point testing TSH, T4 and T3 should be part of the routine labs for Graves follow-up while on methimazole.  Usually would retest in 4-6 weeks depending on the case with this type of situation.  If you stop the methimazole entirely there is a risk of swinging back to hyperthyroidism.
