MY WIFE HAS BEEN ON SYNTHROID FOR OVER 2 WEEKS AND SHE IS NOW LOSING WEIGHT, LOSS THE BLOATING BUT STILL IS REALLY TIRED. IS THAT THE LAST SYMPTOM TO IMPROVE OR IS IT DIFFERENT FOR EACH PERSON?

My doc says it takes 6 weeks to tell the full effects of med doses and changes and I have found that to be pretty accurate in my many med dose changes.

Hi, is your wife on any other medications?  I have been so sick for a year now, and have dose change after dose change, and I have thyroid flare ups, well long story short, I got in the habit just associating everything that ever went wrong with my thyroid.  A year ago when I was having a real problem, anxiety attacks and heart palpitations, along with my synthroid my doctor prescribed propranolol, to help lower my blood pressure, help with the palpitations, so on and so on, well after being on that for a year, I discovered, it was that medication that was making me so lethargic.  I was so tired all the time I could not function.  I thought it was just antoher bad dose of my thyroid, I still was feeling dizzy with blurred vision and was exhausted all the time.  All those were the side effects of this, once I was weaned off of the propranolol, is really when I started to feel great.  Just keep in mind, Does she take any other medication?  If so, look online, check the side effects, it helped me.

MY WIFE IS ON NO OTHER MEDICATIONS. HER BLOOD PRESSURE IS LOW 95 OVER 69. SHE IS 51 AND 5'6 138 POUNDS WAS 126 BEFORE SHE GOT HER THYROID PROBLEM. TSH 246 T4 IS .3 ULTRASOUND CAME BACK GOOD. SHE IS STARTING TO FEEL BETTER AND LOST 3 POUNDS IN THE LAST 2 WEEKS. JUST REALLY TIRED.

THANK-YOU FOR YOUR IMPUT.

I would like to know how long she has suffered low thyroid? When did she notice it or did it just show up in routine lab work? When you say she is tired, do you mean, so tired that she can't do anything around the house tired or just feeling like, at times, she did too much in the day? I really need to know anything you can share w/me. I have been hypothy. since 17, I am now 35. I was on synthroid then went to new family doc and he said labs were fine. (at this point I wasn't taking the med) So, I went on w/life, until about a year ago, I was and still am so tired, that's putting it mild! I saw an endo doc and now am on synthroid 0.75mg again. But it's been 5mos, and I am still so tired to the point of being bed ridden! Is your wife active, working? Does she complain about anything else? Thanks and good luck.

MY WIFE PROBABLY HAS BEEN HYPO FOR 1 OR 2 YEARS BUT DIDN'T KNOW BECAUSE SHE WAS GOING THROUGH THE CHANGE OF LIFE AND SHE THOUGHT THE SYMPTONS WERE FROM THAT. 2 MONTH AGO, SHE STARTED GAINING WEIGHT AND I TOOK HER TO QUEST DIAGNOSTICS FOR A THYROID TEST AND THATS HOW WE FOUND OUT.TSH 246 AND T4 .3 THEN WE WENT TO DOCTORS. SHE IS MY SECREATARY AND PERFORMS GOOD BUT HAS LITTLE ENERGY AND NOT HUNGRY.SHE NOW TAKES .5 SYNTHROID AND NEXT WEEK GOING TO .75 SYNTHROID AND WONDERS IF SHE WILL EVER GET HUNGRY OR GET HER ENERGY LEVEL BACK. SHE WILL TAKE A TSH NEXT WEEK AND THEN SEE THE DOCTOR AGAIN.
