Had thyroid removed 7/15/09

I had my thyroid out a little over 4 weeks ago.  I am having severe pain on the right side of my neck and very moody.  I can cry for no reason.  I have no energy.  I don't see my doctor for almost a month.  I am taking tylenol and otrin together and the pain is not letting up.  This has lasted for more than a week.  Should I go to ER instead of waiting for doctor apointment.  I don't know what is happening to me but I am a different person.

If you are considering going to the ER, you should go.  Otherwise call your surgeon for evaluation.  Also would recheck thyroid levels to make sure they are normal and you don't need an adjustment in your thyroid replacement meds.

I do not know about the pain, mine went away after 2-3 weeks or so. The mood swings and crying though, I do know about. It is normal. You would be amazed at what the thyroid handles and when it is gone you will go through a lot of changes. They are temp. but you will be a little more emotional. I still find myself tearing up over stupid stuff and my surgery was Dec. of 2007. If you had cancer you will have to go through a full body scan. If you do you will have to be off your meds for awhile. Just wait till you see and feel how that affects your body. You will have trouble walking long distances or walking up stairs. You will be tired a lot. It is the process so bear with it. I do think I would call the surgeon and tell them of the pain. they probably will have you come in sooner. Good luck and I hope some of this helped.
