Hashi~Test results??

by Ellly, Nov 30, 2006 12:00AM
Hi.  I'm 25 years old. Just been diagnosed by my GP with Hashimoto, altho he's referred me to an Endo. ( I wont see for about a month)

My question~

My TSH is 13
My Antithyroglobulin is 6900
BUT my T4, T3, and Free T4 are all in normal ranges......
(he started me on .150mg of Synthroid)

My Thyroid is enlarged, more on the right side..

I'm confused.  Why are my hormones 'normal'?  Shouldnt they be low?

I'm new to all of this.

Thanks again.

xx

You have mild subclinical hypothyroidism due to Hashimotos. If you have symptoms of hypothyroidism or a nodular goiter (enlarging thyroid) then treatment makes sense -- otherwise treatment is not necessarily indicated.

Since you have thyroid enlargement, it may be worth treating.  But also will need an ultrasound to eval for nodules.

In either case 150mcg is a big starting dose for what you describe -- I usually start 50 or 75 and recheck in 6-8 weeks.

Did I read this right that you doctor STARTED YOU ON .150MCG. of Synthroid (it's usually mcg. not mg. of Synthroid. Armour is mg from what I understand which makes a BIG difference)?  I ask because that seems like an awfully high dose to start.  My TSH started out at 13 & I was only put on 12.5 mcg. (1/2 of a 25 mcg. pill).  After six mos. I'm only now up to 112mcg (still need an increase though.).

Hopefully the Endo will help you, but in the meantime the forum Dr. will be able to answer your questions.  REply with the dosage if you don't mind.  I'm very curious!  Good Luck to you Ellly!

What are your free T3 and free T4 scores? Where are they in the 'normal' range? Bottom, middle, top? This makes a difference, no matter what your doc tells you.

Have you had your adrenals tested? Every doc should test them when find you have a thyroid problem.

Did your doctor order and ultrasound to look for nodules?

by Ellly, Dec 02, 2006 12:00AM
No :(
But I called on Friday to ask about getting one, nobody got back to me.......

Keep pushing for the ultrasound - it would be good to have it done for the endo to review on your first visit.
